Taping and Bracing for Dance Injuries
Taping for Achilles Tendonitis and Plantar Fasciitis
Taping and bracing techniques can help dancers stabilize and compress certain injuries while keeping them dancing. Taping has especially gained media attention when many of the Bejing and London Olympic athletes competed with different parts of their bodies covered in bright, colorful tape. There are different types of taping techniques and braces available at Olympic Foot and Ankle which are all low profile and light-weight for specific dance injuries. This allows continued range of motion for the joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons that a cast, splint, boot, or even an ankle brace would normally hinder. Recent studies suggest there are benefits to early range of motion in acute injuries, such as ankle and foot sprains versus the standard treatment of immobilization and casting/splinting.
